About Poppy

Poppy is a beautiful greyhound X who came into GRWE in September 2007 from a small charity based in Southern Ireland. Poppy was handed into a Cat Sanctuary with a couple of other dogs. Thankfully the owner of the sanctuary contacted GRWE to ask for our help, and the outcome was that we were able to take two of the dogs off their hands, one of which was Poppy. We cannot be certain of Poppy’s age or history, but we think that she is about 4 years old and has possibly lived with travellers, as if she sees a horse she wants to walk alongside and she loves caravans and children.

When Poppy came over from Ireland she was very frightened of people, and was difficult to handle. In kennels she was extremely withdrawn & nervous, but with kindness and patience she started to learn to trust people.

Poppy found her forever home in late October 2007, and is now a happy and scatty girl who loves to play with the other dogs in the household. Poppy has found so much confidence in her new life that she has even started to help out with some of GRWE’s awareness days.

Sadly Poppy has recently developed a limp. After X-rays and consultations it has been diagnosed that she has a deformity in one of her front legs. One bone is shorter than the other, hence she is walking on the inside of her wrist, which is becoming increasingly painful. Poppy is waiting to see a specialist orthopaedic consultant, and we have been told that she could have to undergo costly surgery to correct the problem to enable her to walk pain free again. However, with the help of the sponsorship scheme Poppy will have the security of being able to have the very best of veterinary care, love and attention for the rest of her life.
