Christmas Appeal 2010

Christmas Appeal 2010

My beloved Eddie died in August. Eddie was my first greyhound and rehoming him brought me into the family of GRWE.

I know that I'm not alone in being heartbroken at losing a pet. Sadly, four of my fellow Trustees lost one of their wonderful hounds in the last 12 months. Daisy and Emily lost their beautiful girls Savannah and Devan in September last year. Julie said goodbye to her wonderful greyhound Molly in March and Jan's old boy Rex and beautiful Penny went to Rainbow Bridge in July and October.

We give these gentle dogs happy, loving homes where they can enjoy their years and we miss them terribly when they're gone. We can never replace these special dogs but somehow we do consider giving another rescue dog the chance of a better life.

This year we have reached critically high levels of abused and abandoned dogs arriving in our care. With space for only 70 dogs at any one time, plus a network of short-term foster homes, the waiting list for our help is getting longer.

And what of those dog-shaped holes left behind? Well, Percy pined so much that, far sooner than expected, Lulu came to live with him and Daisy, and Emily has welcomed the whirlwind whippet cross Eimear. Julie has invited Suri to join her family, after initially fostering her, and Jan has swelled her doggie clan with the addition of Linford. They can never replace the ones we've lost but our capacity to love means that we can give another dog a chance of life. And me? Well, Bea and I are getting used to life without Eddie but I'm sure we won't be on our own for long!

With your help, some of our dogs will get the best Christmas present this year - the loving, kind forever home they deserve. For those not able to offer a home, a donation to help meet our kennel and veterinary costs would be a wonderful gift too.

May I thank you for all your support this year and wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.

Thank you

Vanessa Edwards
Trustee
